Daily Efficacious Prayers and Novena To St. Joseph

"I do not remember, ever to have asked anything of St. Joseph which he did not obtain for me."

~ St. Teresa

A Powerful Novena to Saint Joseph

This novena has proven to be highly efficacious. It seems to be pleasing to St. Joseph and helpful to souls.

This form of novena was originally devised by the celebrated Fr. Louis Lallemant, S. J. [1587-1633]. It has proved particularly effective in obtaining favors through the intercession of St. Joseph.

In the biography of this saintly priest, we learn that the Saint never refused him anything he asked.

The story is told that on one occasion he urged two young priests to make this novena, promising that they would obtain everything they asked through the intercession of St. Joseph if, in turn, they would show him special honor and spread devotion to him among others.

Both did as Fr. Lallemant suggested. One of them asked for grace to speak and write worthily of Our Lord. But the next day he came to Fr. Lallemant to tell him that, upon reflection, he wished to ask for a different grace, which he considered more conducive to his perfection.

Fr. Lallemant replied, "It is too late now to ask for another grace. The first one has already been granted." This grace was conspicuously displayed throughout the whole course of the priest's life, as he became one of the most noted preachers and writers of his day.

How To Make This Novena

First Visit:

During the first visit, consider St. Joseph's Fidelity To Grace.

Reflect upon the action of the Holy Ghost in his soul. At the conclusion of this brief meditation, thank God for so honoring St. Joseph, and ask, through his intercession for a similar grace.

Second Visit:

Later in the day, consider St. Joseph's Fidelity To The Interior Life. Study his spirit of recollection.

Think, thank God, and ask.

Third Visit:

Later still, consider St. Joseph's Love For Our Lady.

Fourth Visit:

Finally, in a fourth visit, reflect upon St. Joseph's Love For The Divine Child.

Think, thank God, and ask.

Prayer to St. Joseph

Especially recommended to be prayed with the Rosary

To Thee, O Blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our affliction, and having implored the help of thy thrice holy Spouse, we now with hearts filled with confidence earnestly beg thee also to take us under thy protection.

By that charity wherewith thou wast united to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by that fatherly love with which thou didst cherish the Child Jesus, we beseech thee and we humbly pray that thou wilt look down with gracious eyes upon that inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by His blood, and wilt succor us in our need by thy power and strength.

Defend, O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen offspring of Jesus Christ. Keep from us, O most loving father, all blight of error and corruption. Aid us from on high most valiant defender, in this conflict with the powers of darkness. And even as of old thou didst rescue the Child Jesus from the peril of His life, so now defend God's Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and all adversity. Shield us ever under thy patronage that, following thy example, and strengthened by thy help, we may live a holy life, die a happy death and attain to everlasting bliss in heaven. Amen.

Indulgence of 3 years. Indulgence of 7 years during the month of October, after the recital of the Rosary.

Aspirations to St. Joseph for Every Day in the Week

An indulgence of three hundred days was granted by His Holiness, Pius VII., April 28, 1807, for repeating these Aspirations.

Three Glory Be's should be added to each Aspiration.

Sunday: My dear St. Joseph, I beseech thee to obtain for me a contrite and humble heart, and great purity of soul and body.

Monday: Most glorious St. Joseph, pray for me, that I may accomplish the will of God all the days of my life.

Tuesday: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! sweet objects of my love, in you, for you, with you, may I live, and die.

Wednesday: Blessed St. Joseph, obtain for me the grace to lead a pure and holy life, ever secure under thy patronage.

Thursday: Beloved St. Joseph, chaste Spouse of the Immaculate Mary, intercede for me that I may obtain pardon, mercy, and salvation.

Friday: Remember me, O most merciful St. Joseph, and pray for me this day and always to Jesus, who deigned to be called thy son, and who has saved me by his precious blood.

Saturday: O Most noble patriarch, St. Joseph, through thy intercession may the Blessed Virgin, thy Immaculate Spouse, be propitious to me now, and at the hour of my death. Amen.

HAIL! holy St. Joseph, who, chosen by God above all other men, wast enriched with grace and adorned with sanctity, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst men, and blessed is He who condescended to be reputed thy son, Jesus. O glorious St. Joseph, most worthy Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary! pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

O Jesus, have mercy on me. O Mary and Joseph, assist me.

Prayer to St. Joseph as Your Patron

Remember, O most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, my beloved patron, that never hath it been heard that anyone invoked thy patronage and sought thine aid without being comforted. Inspired by this confidence, I come to thee and fervently commend myself to thee. Ah, despise not my petition, dear foster-father of our Redeemer, but accept it graciously. Amen

(Indulgence of 500 days, each time.--Pius IX)

Novena to St. Joseph

To be prayed daily for nine days.

O glorious descendant of the kings of Judah, Inheritor of the virtues of all the patriarchs. Just and happy St. Joseph, listen to my prayer. Thou art my glorious protector, and shall ever be, after Jesus and Mary the object of my most profound veneration and confidence. Thou art the most hidden, though the greatest Saint, and art particularly the patron of those who serve God with the greatest purity and fervor. In union with all those who have ever been most devoted to thee I now dedicate myself to thy service; beseeching thee, for the sake of Jesus Christ, who vouchsafed to love and obey thee as a son, to become a father to me; and to obtain for me the filial respect, confidence and love of a child towards thee.

O powerful advocate of all Christians, whose intercession, as St. Theresa assures us, has never been found to fail, deign to intercede for me now, and to implore for me the particular intention of this Novena.

(Mention your intentions here)

Recite one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be

Present me O great Saint to the adorable Trinity, with Whom thou hadst so glorious and so intimate a correspondence. Obtain that I may never efface by sin the Sacred Image according to the likeness of which, I was created. Beg for me that my divine Redeemer would enkindle in my heart and in all hearts, the fire of His Love, and infuse therein the virtues of His adorable infancy, His purity, simplicity, obedience, and humility.

Obtain for me likewise a lively devotion to thy virgin spouse, and protect me so powerfully in life and death, that I may have the happiness of dying as thou didst, in the friendship of my Creator, and under the immediate protection of the Mother of God. Amen.

Unfailing Novena to St. Joseph

This prayer, it is said, has “has never been known to fail, provided that the request is for one’s spiritual benefit or for those whom we are praying for.” Pray it for nine mornings.

O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires.

O St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

O St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him close in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph for Our Work

O Glorious St. Joseph! Model of all those who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work in a spirit of penance for the expiation of my many sins; to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my inclinations; to work with thankfulness and joy, considering it an honor to employ and develop by means of labor the gifts received from God; to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience, never shrinking from weariness and trials; to work, above all, with purity of intention, and with detachment from self, keeping unceasingly before my eyes death and the account I must give of time lost, talents unused, good omitted, and vain complacency in success, so fatal to the work of God.

All for Jesus, all through Mary, all after thy example, O Patriarch Joseph; such shall be my watchword in life and in death. Amen

(Indulgence of 300 days, once a day.--Pius X, Nov. 25, 1906)

Act of Consecration to Saint Joseph

O Blessed Saint Joseph, I consecrate myself to thy honor, and give myself to thee that thou mayest always be my father, my protector, and my guide in the way of salvation. Obtain for me a great purity of heart and a fervent love of the interior life. After thy example may I do all my actions for the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And do thou, O Blessed Saint Joseph, pray for me, that I may share in the peace and joy of thy holy death. Amen.

Prayer for the Intercession of Saint Joseph

O Joseph, virgin father of Jesus, pure spouse of the Virgin Mary, pray for us daily to the Son of God, that, armed with the weapons of His grace, we may fight as we ought in life, and be crowned by Him in death.

(Indulgence of 100 days, twice a day.--Pius X, Nov. 26, 1906)

Purple Scapular for Protection in These Times

Not only is the wearing of this scapular strongly recommended, but its exposition in our homes will give special protection.

** Promise of Protection From;

Sudden Death, Fire, Calamity, Accidents, Disease, Famine, Chastisements

“The Purple Scapular was given by Our Lord to Marie-Julie Jahenny… And many things that she predicted came through… He (Jesus) said that by the time you get to the third wave of the chastisement, it will be so bad, that the bodies will be stacked in the streets and there will be diseases, that are completely unrecognizable… So she asked Christ for a scapular to protect so that those who had it…”
